Congratulations to Alene Mutala on her victory in Edmonton Catholic Schools’ Ward 75 today. Alene will make a fine addition to our school board, which I believe is headed in a more positive direction with the results of the Oct. 16 election. That positive direction is the result I most wished to see come from this vote.
Thank you to all those who worked on my campaign and who voted for me in what turned out to be a losing cause. We gave it our best, and we showed the power of a strong grassroots campaign. Without my excellent campaign team and dozens of volunteers, I would have been nowhere.
I have no regrets. We worked hard, provided a campaign full of substance on the issues, and involved many people who have not been involved in a political campaign previously.
On Tuesday, I fly to Toronto for three days to begin a new job with Novalis as editor of Living With Christ, the Sunday Missal and several other publications. I will work from Edmonton, making only occasional forays to headquarters in Toronto. I hope to involve new, young writers in these publications for the year that I am at the helm. After that year, we will see what life brings.
